BACKGROUND
1959 BORN IN JOHOR BAHRU, MALAYSIA

Architect turned artist, Dato' Rosli Jaafar graduated in Architecture from the Birmingham School Of Architecture, United Kingdom in 1985 and in 1998 qualified as a profesional Architect registered with Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia PAM. His career in Architecture started in a small private firm in Johor Bahru. In 1990 he moved to Penang to take up the post of an Architect with the Penang Development Corporation. He build up his career with the corporation and in 2006 was made its General Manager.

His love for paintings has grown ever since he took up the brush to paint landscape in watercolour during his primary school days as that is the only medium he could afford. This self taught painter started doing paintings in oil in his late forties and is thrilled with the outcome. His love for Penang;s urban fabric has become his main object of interpretation through his paintings in capturing the soul and vibrancy of the city makeup. His passion for architecture has also influenced the subject of his paintings. For Rosli, painting is like a therapy to distress after a hard days work.

Rosli has shown five of his paintings together with nine prominent Penang artists during its inaugural opening of Penang Artist Corner in October 2013 and he was invited to officiate the Malaysia & Philippine Art Exhibition at Galery Seri Mutiara in July 2013. That event, as well as, having met Christopher Dally, a senior artist during his 2nd solo exhibition at Gallery Seri Mutiara and later found out that he did his fist solo at the age of 77 and enthusiastically produce artwork. Rosli felt inspired to produce more paintings. Of late he has begun to feel that he is ready for a solo exhibition and at the age of 55, he challenged himself to reveal his works of art for public viewing.
